Canada's Blue Jays Claim World Series Showdown With defending champion Dodgers
The outfielder contributed to the Astros securing the World Series in the 2017 season.
The Toronto Blue Jays reached their maiden championship series after the 1993 season by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the final seventh game of the American League Championship Series.
Trailing by two runs, outfielder George Springer smashed a three-run home run in the seventh inning, guiding the Toronto squad in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series victory in the series. Next up are the Dodgers, holders of the reigning title, in the forthcoming Fall Classic.
"I'm thrilled for everyone here, the city, our country," Springer stated, a star of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 World Series. "What an unbelievable moment."
Springer has now slugged 23 total playoff homers, ranking him third all-time trailing only Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).
"It's hard to imagine anyone else in the world that I'd choose in that moment besides George Springer with his post-season brilliance," said manager John Schneider.
Seattle's team, who had led the early in the series, are still the one club yet to make an appearance in a World Series.
Wilson commented "there's no question that it's painful" following his team's loss at Rogers Centre, but commended their performance in the campaign.
"It's a special team. Sadly that we had to come out on the unsuccessful side of the series," he added.
Toronto's team secured the championship on their two prior appearances in the early 90s, and are set to host the Dodgers in the first game on Friday.
