Iran Claims Attack on US Base in the Kingdom of Bahrain, During Widespread Military Operations.

Iranian forces say they have struck a American military facility in Bahrain, as Iran launched operations across the region in retaliation for a large-scale and ongoing attack targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity in the area of the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any destruction is unclear and the American officials has not commented.

Missile Defenses Activated

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - all home to American military installations - said they have shot down incoming projectiles in their air space.

In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had successfully engaged several missiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the Middle East.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was striking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on the Islamic Republic carried out by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.

That preceding assault - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted areas associated with the Iranian leadership, with President Trump urging the people of Iran to rise up against the regime.

Wider Impacts

In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israeli military reported it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the UAE announced that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems responded to the missiles with great effectiveness and destroyed a several projectiles," the statement continued.

It said debris fell on a residential area in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some property damage and killing a civilian.

The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
