Israeli citizens commemorate two-year anniversary of October 7th incident as Palestinian peace negotiations continue
Citizens have gathered throughout the country to mark 24 months since the Hamas-initiated assault on that fateful day in October 2023, as talks continued in the neighboring country over a resolution to the war in Gaza.
The incident resulted in over 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others taken back to Gaza as captives. It was the most deadliest day for Jews since the World War II.
Israel reacted by launching a military offensive in Gaza which has killed more than 67,000 people, as reported by the area's Hamas-run health ministry. Its statistics are regarded as reliable by the UN and other global organizations.
"The violent opponents have caused great damage, but they have not broken us," the prime minister stated on that day.
He also pledged to "realize all the aims of the war: the return of all the abducted, the destruction of the Hamas government and the promise that Gaza will not create a threat to Israel".
Commemorative Ceremonies Across Israel

Hours earlier, a minute's silence was held throughout the country.
Ceasefire Talks in Egypt

The source explained the earlier meeting concluded without concrete outcomes, due to differences over the recommended Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas seeks to guarantee Israel does not recommence combat after the initial stage of the arrangement.
He noted that the negotiations are "tough and have not yet achieve any major advancement," but noted that intermediaries are striving to narrow the differences between the two sides.
