Seamer Gus Atkinson Exacerbates the English team's Injury Problems.

'Major setback' for England after Atkinson leaves the field with a hamstring injury.

The pace bowler increased England's injury problems when he left the ground during Saturday's play of the fourth Ashes Test in the Ashes series.

The pace bowler felt a problem in his left leg post-delivery of the fourth over at the MCG.

The England team reported the 27-year-old reported "discomfort" and would spend time away from the action for further assessment "over the next few hours".

The final Test in this Ashes battle beginning on 4 January gets underway this coming Sunday.

The English side has previously lost fast bowlers one seamer to a knee injury and Jofra Archer to a side strain on the current trip.

Matthew Fisher was brought into the squad as cover for Wood.

Atkinson struggled in the opening two Tests, claiming a mere a handful of scalps.

He was dropped from the previous Test, before being recalled for the Boxing Day match as Archer's replacement.

Surrey's Atkinson performed better in the fourth Test, bagging two scalps in Australia's first innings, and scoring 28 runs as a batsman being one of only three teammates to get into double digits.

Following a brief spell late on the first day, he came back for the second day's play and removed Scott Boland taken by the wicketkeeper.

However, at the end of that over, he delivered a variation to Travis Head and immediately felt at his leg.

Atkinson was brought back for the Boxing Day Test having missed the previous Test.
