The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Discloses He Has a Plan for How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... At the Moment.

Vince Gilligan did not foresee that the Apple TV+ show would emerge as a massive hit. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he remarks. “It was unexpected the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

With the first season of the acclaimed series reaching its finale—and a second season already in development—the writers' room reflected on the fan response and whether it will shape the storyline of Pluribus.

On the Tremendous Viewer Reception

Anyone might to get sidetracked by the widespread acclaim and audience predictions about Pluribus. The creator is doing his best to avoid both.

“It's like being an endless supply of your favorite dessert and being laughing uncontrollably,” he explains. “It's wonderful, but I get wind of it through word of mouth, and that's on purpose. Never in my life Googled myself, nor do I ever want to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a rabbit hole I know I would disappear down and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from the hardware store and I'd never leave my living room.”

Despite his concerted efforts, there’s no way to avoid the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The most practical strategy is to take it in stride and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“We make no attempt to tailor anything,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not impacted by online forums.”

“Better to keep our focus on the work,” he chimes in.

The Big Question: Does the creator Know the Conclusion of Pluribus?

So if Gilligan and his team are not listening by fan response, can we assume they have mapped out how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? Essentially yes… in a way.

“We have some interesting ideas about where the show might end up,” Gilligan reveals. “yet we stand ready to discard a solid concept for a better idea. That has held us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we find a more perfect path and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

On the other hand, if all else fails, Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to use as a backup.

“I keep pitching that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and we're in there,” Smith jokes, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Then again, why not reference the iconic TV endings?

“I'd love for Carol to awaken beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is streaming now on the streaming service.
