Thrice-crowned Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic endures a 'gut-wrenching' injury to his knee.
Three-time National Basketball Association MVP Nikola Jokic sustained a "heartbreaking" injury to his knee while the Denver Nuggets lost 147-123 against the Heat.
The Serbian center was hurt towards the end of the second quarter during an inadvertent collision with teammate Spencer Jones.
His teammate landed on the footwear of the MVP, who instantly collapsed to the ground grabbing his leg.
The 30-year-old, who tops the NBA season in rebounds and assists, recorded a score of 21 points and eight assists in the matchup prior to sustaining the setback.
He will undergo an MRI scan on the following day to evaluate the extent of the issue.
"Immediately, he understood something was wrong," commented Denver coach Adelman.
"This is part of the NBA. Whoever that suffers an injury, it's gut-wrenching, especially a player as important as he is. More information will come tomorrow."
"We will continue together. Of course, right now, I'm more concerned about Jokic personally and the letdown of going through a situation of that nature."
